Stitch Ministry: all-sensory slinkiness

Stitch Ministry is just over two years old and already they have shown at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week, a big coup for any New Zealand label, let alone one so new. But then Stitch Ministry is more than a mere fashion label. Not content to just design stylish, wearable clothes, they also collaborate with fresh, local musicians and artists through their website and shop space, and they recently released a signature perfume. They believe in delivering an all-sensory experience, and my senses are definitely tantalised by their Summer ’08 collection; a juicy, colourful range called ‘If You Love Me’. While knitwear is the label’s corner stone, this collection shows that they are so much more than that, with silky mini skirts and jumpsuits among the sexy collection. In saying that, the slinky knit dresses would have to be their stand out garments.

Designer Kylee Davis has always had a passion for fashion, from creating her own bikinis at age five to launching hip label Insidious Fix when she was just 21. In late 2006, she teamed up with Jason Gitmans of Gitmans Knitwear to create Stitch Ministry. The label is targeted at the independent, modern woman with a runway street-wear appeal and gorgeous, tactile fabrics. This label is one to watch at Air New Zealand Fashion Week… I can’t wait!
