Ana Steele’s clever, mysterious label will make its Air New Zealand Fashion Week debut this year, with a highly coveted spot in the Verge Breakthrough Designer Show. With four collections under her young designer belt, Ana’s signature look becomes stronger with each season. Her sculptural style has dark, mischievous undertones that are conveyed through quirky fabric combinations and unusual shapes.
Ana has a wild imagination, and often takes the inspiration for her designs from enchanting stories she writes herself, which depict gorgeous doll-like characters and their night-time escapades. Not just a design talent, she also loves to write and draw, and has dabbled in costume design, accessory design and styling. Her passion for art and music adds depth to her collections, which of late, include artworks of her own and designs by another artist Hamon Ra, who has featured in Ana's past collections.
Ana’s fashion obsession began as a child with some red roller skates and a 'My Little Pony’ sewing machine. After honing her technical skills as a workroom assistant at Feline, Ana started her own label in Winter 2007, which she manages from a shop and workroom space shared with close friend and fellow designer Michael Pattison.
